Local tourism operator The CaPTA Group has been selected as part of a new network of champion employers of indigenous Australians convened by Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC).
The network, funded by Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations, consists of 11 companies from across the state, who have been identified as role models to advocate the opportunities and benefits of indigenous employees to the tourism industry.
Two representatives from The CaPTA Group, Staff Excellence Manager Penny Cleland and Rainforestation Pamagirri Manager Frank Crocker, attended the network induction in Brisbane on Monday 25th May 2009.
QTIC Chief Executive Officer Daniel Gschwind said The CaPTA Group had been selected for its innovative training programmes giving practical opportunities for indigenous people in the tourism industry.
“From its longstanding collaborative Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience at Rainforestation Nature Park, to its successfully implemented Structured Training & Employment Project (STEP Program), The CaPTA Group has put in place practical and effective steps to achieve real outcomes,” he said.
“Bringing the indigenous community and tourism industry closer together is a long standing aspiration, and we are very pleased to welcome The CaPTA Group as a member to the Champions Network to help other tourism operators follow their lead.”
The CaPTA Group is locally owned and operated by the Woodward family of Cairns, consisting of Rainforestation Nature Park, Tropic Wings Coach Tours, RnR White Water Rafting, Jungle Tours, The Wildlife Habitat, Cairns Wildlife Dome and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.
