The CaPTA Group of Companies wish to advise that the School Based Traineeship Program has been expanded for students interested in a career pathway in Tourism and Hospitality.
Continuing its commitment to ensuring staff and the greater tourism and hospitality industry as a whole have access to and partake of relevant, quality and flexible training, The CaPTA Group established the CaPTA Training Centre (CTC) in 2008.
Officially launched on 15 August, 2008 by the Honourable Brendan O’Connor, Minister for Employment Participation, CTC is a partnership with Career Training Institute of Australia (CTIA). Based on the Gold Coast, CTIA is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) also dedicated to improving the skills of employees through quality training. Formal training, along with practical on-the-job work experience, provides school based trainees with a nationally recognised qualification in tourism or hospitality at a Certificate III level.
The mission statement of the CaPTA Training Centre (CTC), part of The CaPTA Group is: “To provide a centre of excellence in flexible, hands on training that encourages individuals of all levels to develop and perform, meeting the needs of today’s employers and industry”.
In 2007 we had students from 5 local schools and offered opportunities to nine students. Three students in Grade 12 have been offered full time positions to finalise their traineeship and are looking to further their careers in the area of Tourism.
In 2008 we had five new students join the school based traineeship program from local high schools in the region and in 2009 eighteen students gained school based traineeships.
Partnering with CTIA has enabled CTC to increase the scope, flexibility of delivery and relevance of training in the region with 18 students accepted for the 2009 program. CTC has branched out to provide school based trainees to other host tourism and hospitality businesses within the Far North region that are outside the CaPTA umbrella. These host employers include hotels, a local tour desk and a reef boat operator school based traineeships are interactive, flexible and relevant to the student and businesses requirements.
Traineeships are designed to allow students maximum exposure to a variety of career paths, working alongside other staff, mentors and business owners in the local industry. CaPTA Training Centre provides the communication link and support between the school, parents/guardians and QLD Apprenticeship Services ensuring the successful completion of your qualification.
As a School Based Trainee you can work in some or all of the following fields, learning a variety of skills designed to assist you in selecting a career pathway:
- Administration Hospitality
