School - Based Traineeship Program 2012
Year 11 and 12 Students

The CaPTA Group of Companies wish to advise that we have opened applications for the 2012 School Based Traineeship Program, for students who are interested in a career pathway in Tourism or Hospitality.

Our school based traineeship program was developed in 2006 for school students in Year 11 and 12 across the Far North Region, introducing them to the tourism sector. In addition to their school studies, students undertake work placement with an employer providing on-the-job training and also complete formal tuition in that field.

The success of this program is an increase in the number of trainees applying for places each year. This year 2011, we had 54 applications for school based traineeships in which every applicant was interviewed. Within the Capta Group for 2011, we have started 12 school based trainees and assisted 8 other school based trainees with other employers.

This program is designed to provide local students with the opportunity to experience a variety of roles within the tourism or hospitality industry in a caring and nurturing environment.  Students learn skills in areas such as Food and Beverage, retail, guiding and administration whilst they complete a Certificate III in Tourism (Operations) or a Certificate III in Hospitality. 
This program is available to those students enrolled in Years 11 and 12 in the 2012 School Year. 

Students need to display a strong interest in their chosen field and commitment to a program that combines both classroom and paid on-the-job- training.  Successful applicants will be offered a position within The CaPTA Group of Companies and all training is provided by Careers Training Centre.  Both companies provide a high level of support for trainees to ensure the most successful outcome.

There may be opportunities for trainees to work extra casual hours on weekends and school holidays when available.  Transport to and from the work site is essential.
