TWO CaPTA COMPANIES CHOSEN AS GREEN TRAVEL LEADERS

Tropic Wings Coach Tours and The Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas have been recognised as Green Travel Leaders, along with only 40 other tourism operators across Australia.
The Green Travel Leaders have been announced by Ecotourism Australia, after declaring 2010 as the Year of Responsible Ethical and Sustainable Tourism.
Ecotourism Australia CEO Ms Kym Cheatham said the purpose of the initiative is to put the spotlight on the operators that want to protect and sustain one of Australia’s key assets as a tourism destination – its national environment.
“These companies are trail blazers in responsible travel having been eco-certified for 10 years or more,” she said.
“Long before most people were thinking about green issues, these businesses saw the importance of the environment to tourism and wanted to ensure they behaved in a responsible, ethical and sustainable way,” she said.
CaPTA Eco-Committee Chairperson Shauna Lep said the group was proud to be recognised for its long standing commitment to providing ecologically sustainable tourism in the Wet Tropics region of Tropical North Queensland.
“We have an established eco-committee across our group of companies, which will continue to work on new initiatives throughout this Year of Responsible Ethical and Sustainable Tourism,” she said.
The Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas is Australia’s leading wildlife experience, providing visitors with a chance to observe up close a huge range of flora and fauna. Tropic Wings Coach Tours is Cairns’ largest and longest established coach tour operator, with day tours to Kuranda, Cape Tribulation & The Daintree, Port Douglas, and Atherton and the Outback.
