THURSDAY 22ND OCTOBER 2009
Two guides from an indigenous touring company in Mossman have completed a professional qualification with leading tourism training organisation, The CaPTA Training Centre.
Warren Kerr and Daniel Fischer from Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime Tours now have their experience and life skills in guiding formally recognised and acknowledged with an Australian accredited Certificate III in Tourism (Guiding).
Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime Tours Co-ordinator Rachael Hodges said Daniel and Warren attended weekly training sessions for 6 months, and worked hard to undertake and complete their traineeships in such a short time,
“The successful completion of their traineeships was an important milestone in both their individual successes and those of the business,” she said.
"Kuku Yalanji Dreamtime is highly committed to the ongoing development and training of Indigenous people in the tourism and hospitality industry in the Mossman Gorge community, and we thank The CaPTA Group for their support and commitment in this area."
CaPTA Staff Development Officer Penny Cleland said Warren and Daniel’s achievements demonstrated how other tourism organisations outside of The CaPTA Group could benefit from training programmes at the CaPTA Training Centre.
“Congratulations to Warren and Daniel for completing their traineeships, this really does show the overall impact these programmes have on region’s tourism industry, by strengthening the skills base in the indigenous community.”
The Capta Training Centre in partnership with Career Training Institute of Australia is a leading training organisation that increases skills and broadens employment opportunities through education and training within the Tourism and Hospitality industry. The CaPTA Group is locally owned and operated by the Woodward family, consisting of Rainforestation Nature Park, Tropic Wings Coach Tours, RnR White Water Rafting, The Rainforest Habitat, Cairns Wildlife Dome, Jungle Tours, Australian Butterfly Sanctuary and Blue Sky Brewery.
